SharePoint

PeoplePoint is based on Microsoft's SharePoint Server. More details on Share point are available here.

PeoplePoint

PeoplePoint is based on Microsoft SharePoint. Microsoft SharePoint Server is a collection of technologies designed to unify systems and information from different sources into a single enterprise solution which brings together people, information and processes in a collaborative environment. It includes the capabilities to guide users through different enterprise resources, such as documents, applications, processes and data. In addition to this SharePoint Server also offers sophisticated yet easy to use searching and document management capabilities.

Both Workflow Foundation (Workflow Engine) and SQL Server (Data Repository) are fully integrated within the SharePoint environment and are inclusive features of the core SharePoint Server product. This will allow users to reap the substantial benefits of Microsoft’s considerable investment in these integrated solutions.

Workflow Engine

Windows Workflow Foundation is the development environment for quickly building workflow enabled applications. Windows Workflow Foundation includes support for both system workflow and human workflow across a wide range of scenarios including workflow within line of business applications, user interface page-flow, document-centric workflow, human workflow, composite workflow for service oriented applications, business rule driven workflow and workflow for systems management.

In addition to this, integrated Workflow Foundation functionality within the SharePoint Server run time environment allows the definition, management and monitoring of business processes (Workflows) from within the SharePoint viewer. These business processes can be defined using either the Microsoft SharePoint Designer or through Microsoft Visual Studio.

Data Repository

Microsoft SharePoint Server uses Microsoft SQL Server  as the repository for its application / solution data and any associated documents. SQL Server is an industry leading enterprise scale solution for data storage, interrogation and application data management.

As SQL Server underpins SharePoint Server’s database functionality this will ensure the simplified storage, interrogation, reporting and usage of all user data (including legacy data) from a single front end.
